What exactly is a breastfeeding home visit?

To schedule a breastfeeding housecall, please call (210) 209-1002

Breastfeeding housecalls are...
A breastfeeding housecall is a comprehensive lactation consultation that takes place where you and your baby breastfeed most...in the comfort of your own home. Breastfeeding housecalls take approximately two hours,  during which an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant visits with you to learn about and help you meet your breastfeeding goals. Whether you need simple breastfeeding support or full clinical breastfeeding support, BH IBCLCs offer you, your family and your healthcare provider the tools needed to achieve the breastfeeding your baby needs.

What does a consultation feel like?
Mothers tell us they feel empowered. All consultations are mother-led, with IBCLCs being merely a treasure-chest of knowledge for mothers to pick from. Moms define their goals, tell us (your IBCLCs) what will help your goals to be met, and then we create a plan of action/care together.

From technical hands-on support to emotional support, to perspective-building and breastfeeding counseling, breastfeeding families in all situations will receive the absolute highest of breastfeeding care.

What is different about BH IBCLCs?
In addition to thoroughly knowing the science of human lactation via education, experience and international board-certification, BH IBCLCs have spent time with thousands of mothers in a mother's own home. Experiencing a mother's breastfeeding with her in her own environment unearths a LOT of practical skills that are imperative to a breastfeeding relationship on the rocks.

For example, BH IBCLCs have the ability to learn about, coach and involve and entire family unit. From conversing with grandmas (when present...and we LIKE them to be present) about their own breastfeeding stories and feelings, to talking to dad about his role and expectations of breastfeeding, we are able to transform families into complete supporters and even to be coaches of moms breastfeeding goals.

Heck, even toddlers get loved on, and pets are greeted and included in our consultations! Why?! Because they will all be with you during your breastfeeding journey!

What about technical breastfeeding issues?
Prenatal breastfeeding education about latch and positioning are fabulous to have taken...but it's up to a mom's and baby's
respective anatomies when it comes to how the theories learned in breastfeeding class are actually implemented.

When technical breastfeeding "hiccups" (positioning, sore nipples, etc.) are why mom reaches out, BH IBCLCs have the advantage of seeing every physical aspect of a mother's normal breastfeeding space. From mom's breast anatomy, to baby's mouth anatomy, to the size and space of pillows/chairs/beds etc. Anywhere a mom breastfeeds can be made perfect for her simply by slight tweaks, changes and holds--all of which are picked up on by an experienced in-home IBCLC, of course.

BH is an inclusive practice!

Because BH is committed to being God’s loving heart and hands in our community
we offer the same embracing support families of all races, ethnicities, faiths, marital status, intellectual or physical ability, neuro-differences, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, or political affiliation.
