This page is a continuation of the Breastfeeding Blog: 10 Myths Successful Birthy-Business Owners Have Never Believed.

Let's face it...as serene as it seems, the baby/mother-care business realm isn't a shallow backyard pool, or a peaceful pond full of koi...

Like any small business sector, the birthy world is actually a gigantic ocean. The waters are vast, and the currents are fast. Sadly, this not-so-lovely dynamic is what keeps many of us doubtful that we can survive in these business waters...but we can, so long as we learn to swim, float and navigate toward solid birthy-business land.

If you're reading this, thank you for considering me as a trusted business friend. Please continue reading to know how I can help you learn to swim...

But first, some disclaimers from Laura:

I am not a certified business coach, and will be utilizing the next 6 months to decide if I want to become one. While I believe in certification for everything, and will seek it out when I decide to become one, the services I am offering right now fall within the realm of mentorship. As such, my rates are based on my time's current "worth", which I calculate based on time away from my family and my busy private-practice. When I become a certified business coach (if I become one), my rates will increase.

A love note to local-to-me birthy business people:

As of right now, I am strongly pondering on the ethics of providing charged mentorship services in my own local (San Antonio) community, both because I operate my own private-practice here, and local mentorship could involve strengthening my practice's referral sources' "competition", which is a delicate area for me since I very much care about my fellow-local birthy folk (it's a catch 22). Until I figure this part out, I will take count of raised local-to-me hands seeking birthy-business mentorship services. So, if you're local, please still fill out the form below. I may not reach out until I have thought through a model to serve my local friends. In the meantime, I am (as always) open to here-and-there phone calls and coffee dates, but local formal mentorship is something I need to chew more on from a diplomatic stand-point and determine how to best offer this.

Mentee Criteria

1. Existing or future birth or breastfeeding support entrepreneurs who have taken concrete steps to planning their business, or who haven't yet, but have an actionable plan to talk through, energy and stamina.

2. Someone who plans on:

• Building a business based on soil of passion and uncompromised ethics (this includes adhering to your profession's code of ethics, and your industry's norms, of which I will ask to see and will include in long-term mentorship contracts)
• Adhering to the WHO Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes (I realize some business owners won't adhere to this, and I respect that--but I cannot ethically mentor a business who goes against this Code--please be sure to know where you stand on this before contacting me for mentorship services)

• Maintaining strict levels of business confidence, as all business owners should.

• For long-term mentorship, providing 3 business referrals that will vouch for your birthy character

3. Has the technology and availability to talk on the phone, email, Skype/FaceTime or use WhatsApp.
