Why do I need an IBCLC?
An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is more than a breastfeeding supporter and helper. In fact, IBCLCs are who all other breastfeeding care providers (LLL Leaders, Certified Lactation Counselor, Peer Counselors, etc.) refer to when breastfeeding issues fall outside their scope of practice. As an integral part of obstetric, midwifery, pediatric and neonatology care teams, IBCLCs are relied upon to assess and restore normal, healthy breastfeeding relationships.
IBCLCs are specifically trained and experienced with ALL breastfeeding situations, including uncommon ones. IBCLCs have generally worked with hundreds (and likely thousands) of babies before they are credentialed by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners. They have a firm baseline of what's normal and will identify and act on situations to prevent the cascades of events which can occur after birth interventions are used (inductions, c-sections, etc.).
Why should I call Breastfeeding Housecalls?
In San Antonio, it is rare to find an IBCLC in private-practice (one who is outside of the hospital or WIC setting). Breastfeeding Housecalls is proud to be one of the local leaders in the movement to normalize breastfeeding and improve access to quality professional support by providing breastfeeding classes and breastfeeding home-visits.
The following is a non-exhaustive list of the services Breastfeeding Housecalls provide:
